Winter Sun
A Winter sun with a silhouette of trees in front of it. The sun is always seen as a source of hope and joy, so I wanted to make an image where the sun seemed the opposite. I wanted it to appear eery and secretive. I think I achieved that through this picture.
Settled Snow
I waited until a few days after the snow had settled to see how images would work. I found a big difference between the soft effect snow had on the environment, to how harsh it appeared after a few days of settling as ice. I much prefer the sharpness the after effect of snow gives.

Empty Sun Set
My last image showing soft and sharp together. I wanted to show a hint of sun set, but I didn't want the sun being the main focus, I wanted that to be on the trees. I had to position the camera to shoot just above the sun.
Sharp and Soft
A soft sky and plane trail, mixed with slight sharpness from tree tops. I was hoping to only get the corner tree top, as though the plane was emerging from that, but the neighbour trees were a little too tall to be completely out of sight.

Subject and Reflection
Following on from recent reflection images, I found this unknown object dangling from the tree to be a perfect test for a combination image. I'm going to combine the two to create one picture. One showing the subject, and the other showing its reflection.
A Sharp Silhouette
The name of this bush escapes me, but I love the sharpness against the soft sky. As the closer plants are blurred, it looks as though it is emerging from a cloud of black smoke.
DOF Examples
Decomposing Stages
I luckily found a leaf that shows three different decomposing stages at once. It was the only leaf like it I could find. With the dullness in the background, the colours are more prominent. I find something very beautiful about it.
Water Droplets
I've wanted to take an image of a subject with water droplets for some time. I didn't want to create my own, I wanted them to be naturally formed with no human influence. I took a few shots, and this was the most successful. I may use droplets as the main subject during my next photography project.
Sky Drapes
I like the simplicity of this image. It was approaching twilight, and the sky was still a little light. The sun is just out of shot, behind the branches, leaving them appear like silhouettes. There is contrast between the soft sky and the sharp branches.
Reflection (digital)
One of the first pictures I took with my film camera was of tree reflections in water. I haven't yet managed to develop a print from the film, so I wanted to create the same image with my DSLR. I love the outcome, and I can't wait to print the one from my film. I think this image would suit black and white, unless it is a very clear blue day.
Spider Speck
I was looking through the lens when a small white speck caught my attention. I took a picture, then got closer, took another, and repeated for a third time. After the third I realised I was looking at possibly the smallest spider I have ever seen. It must have been about 2 millimetres in diameter. I put the three images together as a Triptych. The viewer then sees the images the way I saw them, from an unidentified subject, to a well known insect.

Christmas Flame
What I like about this image is the mosaic effect given to the flame from the cracked glass. I also like the red glow from the candle and the stained glass. it really portrays a Christmas-like emotion.

Light and Detail
My favourite kind of image is where the light is behind the object of interest in a picture. This is a perfect example.
Water Droplet Decoration
These are my favourite images. These really show how sharp and focused on detail the camera is capable of.
Gold Snowflake Decoration
I put these two images together for comparison. I studied the differences of depth of field in each image. I'll be using this technique with a lot of my future images.
New Camera Tests
I had a new DSLR camera for Christmas, a Canon EOS 550D, so my next few images are simply tests to see how I can work with it.
This was the first image I had taken, on an outdoor setting and with no flash. I have to admit, I was extremely impressed with the amount of detail captured.
